VOD stands for Video On Demand. This means recorded video, which user can watch at any time, unlike live broadcasts.

One of the most common scenarios is when client uploads video in MP4, MOV or other container format and it's encoded into some streaming playlist format (HLS or DASH if required).

The difference between streaming and container formats is in that they break the video into multiple small fragments (chunks), which are downloaded while the video is watched. This allowes the faster playback and adapts the quality to the user's connection speed.

A container format like MP4 can download to the browser in chunks (if supported by the server), but playback may not begin immediately, especially if metadata is located at the end of the file. Furthermore, MP4 does not support adaptive streaming.

Streaming format playlists typically contain links to several quality options, and the player automatically selects the appropriate option based on connection speed.

The HLS format is sufficient in most cases because it's supported by most modern browsers and devices. Encoding to the DASH format can be performed upon the client's request.

We provide both playlists and our player.

You can use our player free of charge or use any other js-player, by providing a link to your playlist into it.

Sure you can! In your personal account, in the project settings, you'll find the description for uploading, encoding, and retrieving video recordings API methods
We charge for: CDN outgoing traffic (what your viewers have watched), disk space for recordings (originals + transcoded). When encoding 4K video format and higher, you are charged per minute of encoding. If the video is in the original 2080p format and lower, it is considered full HD and is encoded for free..
